UK Working Days Calculator
A Next.js tool I built that counts or adds UK working days between dates, skipping weekends and gov.uk bank holidays for England and Wales, Scotland or NI.
A project I built. The summary below is what it does. I can build this kind of page for a business.
- Next.js
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- Vitest
- Web app
The UK Working Days Calculator counts the working days between two dates, or finds the date that is a number of working days away. It skips weekends and the official bank holidays for England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, including substitute days, and lists every holiday it skipped.
It works like Excel: counting includes both dates by default (NETWORKDAYS), and adding does not count the start date (WORKDAY). You can change the work week, for example to Tuesday to Saturday. Date maths is done in UTC, so the clocks changing for British Summer Time can never add or lose a day.
The bank holidays come from gov.uk's public JSON feed. A script downloads it before every build and keeps the committed copy if gov.uk can't be reached, so the site makes no requests at runtime and needs no API key. There are also static pages for UK bank holidays in 2026, 2027 and 2028 with working days per month.

UK Working Days Calculator is work I built and can extend. The summary above is the scope of this repository. A business version can add accounts, a server, or a design that matches the brand.
Technologies are the ones listed on the card. A live demo button appears only when a page is actually published. GitHub is the source. If the repository and this write-up disagree, trust the repository and send a correction from the contact page.
