How to convert gigabytes (GB) to megabytes (MB)
Multiply gigabytes by 1,000: a 5 GB data plan is 5,000 MB. For RAM, which is always binary, 8 GB of memory is 8 × 1,024 = 8,192 MiB.
Decimal (MB) vs binary (MiB) units
Storage makers, networks and macOS use decimal units: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, 1 MB = 1,000 KB, 1 GB = 1,000 MB. Windows and many programs count in binary units (1 KiB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MiB = 1,024 KiB), but still label them "KB", "MB" and "GB". That's why a "1 TB" drive shows as about 931 GB in Windows. Choose the KiB/MiB/GiB options above to convert the binary way.

Frequently asked questions
How many MB in 1 GB?
1,000 MB (decimal). For RAM sizes, 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB.
How do I convert megabytes (MB) back to gigabytes (GB)?
Press "Swap units" and type your value. The same factor is applied in reverse.
Is the result exact?
Yes. Results use the exact defined factors and show up to 8 decimal places.
