How weighted grades work
Multiply each mark by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. With 68% in an essay worth 30% and 74% in a test worth 20%: (68×30 + 74×20) ÷ 50 = 70.4% so far. To reach 70% overall, the remaining 50% must average (70 − 70.4×0.5) ÷ 0.5 = 69.6%.
UK degree classifications
Most UK universities use: First 70%+, Upper second (2:1) 60–69%, Lower second (2:2) 50–59%, Third 40–49%. Your final classification usually weights later years more heavily and may include rules for borderline marks, so check your university's regulations.
