How the glitch effect is made
Real digital glitches happen when image data is corrupted in transmission or by faulty hardware. This tool imitates the most recognisable artefacts:
- Slice glitch: random horizontal bands are shifted sideways, like a damaged video frame.
- RGB split: the red and blue channels are offset in opposite directions, creating the chromatic-aberration fringe seen in cyberpunk posters.
- Scanlines: darkened rows recreate an old CRT or VHS tape.
- Noise: random grain on every pixel.
Each press of Randomise picks a new pattern of slices, so you can keep going until you get a composition you like. The output is a full-resolution PNG, ideal for album covers, thumbnails, posters and social posts. For softer edits, use the image filter studio.
