How to resize an image
- Choose or drop a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF).
- Pick a preset or type a width and height in pixels, or a percentage.
- Leave "Keep aspect ratio" on to avoid stretching. If you choose a preset with a different shape, pick Crop to fill (centred crop) or Fit with padding (white bars).
- Choose JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency, or WebP for the smallest files on websites. Then download.
Making images smaller in KB
File size depends on pixels and quality. Halving the width and height cuts the pixel count to a quarter, which usually shrinks the file by about 70%. Then lower the quality slider: 0.8 is almost indistinguishable from the original for photos. The output size in KB is shown under the download button. For a target file size, use the image quality changer.
Common sizes
Instagram displays posts at 1080 px wide, Facebook and LinkedIn link previews use 1200×630, YouTube thumbnails are 1280×720, and the UK digital passport photo service accepts photos at least 600×750 px. The resizer uses high-quality browser scaling and never adds a watermark. Need to cut out the subject first? Use the free background remover.
