How to test your microphone
- Press Start mic test and allow microphone access.
- Speak normally. The meter should move into the green, and peaking in the yellow when you talk loudly is fine.
- Press Record 5 s to hear yourself back and check for hiss, echo or a muffled sound.
Mic not working?
- No permission prompt or "blocked": click the padlock or camera icon in your address bar and allow the microphone, then reload.
- Meter doesn't move: choose a different device in the list. Laptops often have several (built-in, headset, webcam). On Windows, check Settings → Privacy → Microphone. On a Mac, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
- Very quiet: raise the input level in your system sound settings and move closer.
- Works here but not in Zoom or Teams: select the same device inside that app's audio settings.
Audio is processed only in your browser using the Web Audio API and is never recorded to a server. Test your camera too with the webcam test.
Frequently asked questions
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
No. The meter and the 5-second playback run locally in your browser, and nothing is saved or sent.
Why does it say permission denied?
Your browser or system blocked the mic. Allow it via the address bar icon and your system privacy settings.
