How to use this online stopwatch
Press Start (or Space) to begin. Press Lap (or L) to freeze a split without stopping the clock. Press Stop to pause, then Start again to resume. Reset (or R) clears the time and the lap list. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds and hundredths.
Why people use a browser stopwatch
You do not need to install an app. Coaches time drills, students time exam sections, cooks time intervals, and developers time page loads. Because everything runs in your browser, your lap times never leave your device.
Reading lap times
Each lap shows the split from the previous lap and the cumulative time from the start. The fastest and slowest laps are highlighted after you record at least two. Copy the lap table if you need to paste results into a spreadsheet.
Tips for accurate timing
- Keep the tab in the foreground for the steadiest animation frame rate.
- Use a wired keyboard for the lowest Space-key latency.
- For countdown alarms instead of counting up, try the online timer.
- To average several lap times later, use the average time calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Does the stopwatch keep running if I switch tabs?
Most browsers slow background timers. Keep the tab open for the most accurate display.
Can I copy my lap times?
Yes. Use the Copy laps button that appears after you record a lap.
Is anything saved on a server?
No. Times stay in your browser memory until you reset or close the tab.
What is the precision?
Hundredths of a second (10 ms), driven by requestAnimationFrame.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Tap Start / Lap / Reset. Landscape mode gives a larger display.
