UK Student Loan Repayment Calculator
A free calculator I built with Next.js that shows your UK student loan repayment for 2026/27 on Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 or a Postgraduate Loan, using HMRC thresholds.
A project I built. The summary below is what it does. I can build this kind of page for a business.
- Next.js
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- Vitest
- Web app
The UK Student Loan Repayment Calculator works out how much of your pay goes on your student loan each pay day. It covers Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4, Plan 5 and the Postgraduate Loan, with the 2026/27 thresholds from gov.uk and HMRC's employer guidance.
It follows payroll rules: the yearly threshold is split into pay-period thresholds cut to the penny, 9% (or 6%) of pay above the threshold is taken, and the result is rounded down to the whole pound. If you have more than one plan, it makes one shared deduction over the lowest threshold and splits it between plans the way gov.uk describes. A Postgraduate Loan is added on top.
A second section estimates whether you will clear the loan before it is written off, with yearly pay rises and Plan 2's income-based interest. It is clearly marked as an estimate.
Everything runs in the browser. There is no backend, no account and no API key. The logic has unit tests built from every worked example on gov.uk, including a floating-point case that would otherwise take a pound too much or too little.

UK Student Loan Repayment Calculator is work I built and can extend. The summary above is the scope of this repository. A business version can add accounts, a server, or a design that matches the brand.
Technologies are the ones listed on the card. A live demo button appears only when a page is actually published. GitHub is the source. If the repository and this write-up disagree, trust the repository and send a correction from the contact page.
