To check if a QR code is safe, preview the web address before opening it, make sure the domain belongs to the real organisation, look for stickers over the original code, and test doubtful links with a free scanner. If a page asks for a password or card details, use the official site or app.
To protect against SIM swap fraud, turn on your mobile network's SIM or number lock, add a strong account password or PIN, set a SIM PIN on your phone, move important accounts from SMS codes to an authenticator app or passkey, and never read out a one-time code to anyone who calls you.
