How Long Is a Nautical Mile? Metres, Miles, Knots and Why It's Different

A nautical mile is exactly 1,852 metres, which is about 1.15 ordinary (statute) miles, 1.852 kilometres or 6,076 feet. It's longer than a land mile because it was designed to match one minute of latitude on the Earth's surface, which makes distances easy to read off a chart.
